Illuminations Festival, Wynnum Saturday 21st June 2014 Noon to 9pm
Make a date as the Wynnum foreshore lights up with colourful lanterns, projections and illumination displays adjacent to the Wynnum Wading Pool and Jetty. The area comes to life after dusk with fire twirlers, street entertainers, and music. On Pandanus Beach is a Fire Sculpture. A day/twilight market is open from noon featuring local food and artefacts.
A street lantern parade commences at dusk with children from local schools and the community marching with coloured lanterns large and small from the former Wynnum Central School site. See the specially decorated dolphin, boat, ice cream cone and even a thong!! The Parade will continue down Edith Street, along the Esplanade, and around the Wading Pool, placing small lanterns around the pool with a special welcome Aboriginal fire ceremony conducted by the local Winnan Tribe.
On Pandanus Beach a Fire Sculpture designed by local artist Daniele Lamarche-Sarvia will be lit and fire twirlers will add to the colour and atmoshpere of the evening. Manly Dragon Boats will perform a tug-of-war on the Wynnum Wading Pool, and the RE/MAX Advantage hot air ballon will alight the sky from near Pandanus Beach. Daytime activities include roving musical entertainment, Giant Games and markets in the park.
