The relocation follows plans to develop the tent’s current Wynnum site, which has supported its restoration and use since 2024. Brisbane Powerhouse says the new venue will give the Spiegeltent a permanent home for performances, functions and events.

The tent was brought back to life through a partnership involving the Augathella and Wynnum communities, Murweh Shire Council and Tom Oliver Productions. Its next chapter will allow it to operate throughout the year, rather than opening in Wynnum for only a few weeks because of the temporary infrastructure required there.

Brisbane Powerhouse’s existing program will continue while construction takes place, with New Farm Park remaining open. The venue’s redesign will include a gloss black contemporary façade, illuminated signage and clean architectural lines outside, with crimson velvet, black vinyl flooring and black marine carpet inside.

Wynnum Fringe will continue after the Spiegeltent’s departure. The festival has been part of Brisbane’s bayside cultural calendar for seven years, and planning is underway for its 2027 format as Tom Oliver Productions works on a sustainable model for future arts and cultural events in Wynnum.

The Spiegeltent will also become the new home of Queensland Fringe, with Tom Oliver Productions and Brisbane Powerhouse co-curating productions in the space year-round.

The program runs on Sunday 13 September 2026, 10am to 4pm. The day includes the Volkswagen Drivers Club of Queensland’s 40th annual car show, local dance and community performances, live music, community stalls, food trucks, amusement rides, jumping castles, face painting and a petting zoo.

The Wynnum Manly Spring Parade began in 1916 as the Wynnum Ambulance Spring Parade, a fundraiser for the local ambulance service. More than a century later it has grown into one of the district’s defining community events, and it still carries a good deal of local heritage with it. The Wynnum Manly Historical Society records and celebrates that history, keeping the tradition alive for each new generation.

The announced program includes Allan Clayton and Kate Golla in A Winter’s Journey, pianist Paul Lewis exploring Mozart, and the Latvian Radio Choir performing with recorder player Genevieve Lacey.

The precinct is planned to connect Victoria Park with the new Brisbane Stadium, the National Aquatic Centre and the Brisbane Showgrounds. The draft plan proposes keeping Victoria Park free and open to the public year-round, with around two-thirds of the park remaining green and publicly accessible.

Ideas included in the draft include a public amphitheatre, footbridges linking parts of the city, forest trails and walkways, expanded York’s Hollow wetlands and a community sports hub with an athletics track. These proposals are at the planning and consultation stage, so the final mix of facilities will depend on the planning process and community feedback.

The wider precinct is also being prepared for major sporting and entertainment activity associated with Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. At the Brisbane Showgrounds, a new 20,000-seat Main Arena is planned, along with grandstands, a horse pavilion and accessibility upgrades. Work is expected to begin in September 2026, with Hutchinson Builders selected for the project.

The festival opens with Riverfire by Australian Retirement Trust on Saturday 5 September, featuring a RAAF flyover followed by fireworks launched from bridges, barges and rooftops across Brisbane. At South Bank, Festival Village will offer live entertainment, family activities, dance workshops, Indigenous-led contemporary circus, talks, wellbeing sessions and the nightly Bright Nights by ANZ river spectacle.

Other highlights include free outdoor concerts in local parks through the Brisbane Serenades series, the Quandamooka Festival celebrating the living culture, stories and traditions of the Quandamooka people of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), and family programming such as Fijian Flying Circus. The expo will feature fan-built displays by LEGO® builders from Queensland and across Australia, including detailed city layouts, working train displays, fantasy worlds, spacecraft and other original creations. Visitors will also be able to meet the builders behind the displays.

The Eclectic Mix owner Kylie Alcorn received the Outstanding Community Service (Individual) award.

Other local award recipients included Wynnum Manly Veterinary Hospital for Best Pet Services Business, Bayside Hand Therapy for Best Professional Services Business, and Scotty’s Espresso as Best Small Business Newcomer. Keid In Electrical received the Best Trade/Industrial Business award, while EJA Electrical & Air apprentice Eliza Beauchamp was recognised as Outstanding Apprentice of the Year.

Nicole Waller received Best Educator (Individual), while Banette Bayside and Cedar and Pine Wine Bar won the small and general hospitality categories respectively. The season is the first programmed by Queensland Theatre’s new Artistic Director, Daniel Evans. The company says the program centres on work with a strong emotional impact, bringing together stories intended to be experienced collectively rather than simply consumed.

Highlighted productions include Strong is the New Pretty 1 – 19 Sep 2026 Playhouse, described as a nail-biting showdown and an inspiring story of determination, legacy and pride. The season will also feature Into the Woods 11 – 21 Nov 2026 Glasshouse Theatre, a collaboration between Opera Queensland and Queensland Theatre.
