The Augathella Spiegeltent will move from Wynnum to Brisbane Powerhouse’s New Farm precinct, where it will become a 300-capacity performance venue.
The relocation follows plans to develop the tent’s current Wynnum site, which has supported its restoration and use since 2024. Brisbane Powerhouse says the new venue will give the Spiegeltent a permanent home for performances, functions and events.
The tent was brought back to life through a partnership involving the Augathella and Wynnum communities, Murweh Shire Council and Tom Oliver Productions. Its next chapter will allow it to operate throughout the year, rather than opening in Wynnum for only a few weeks because of the temporary infrastructure required there.
Brisbane Powerhouse’s existing program will continue while construction takes place, with New Farm Park remaining open. The venue’s redesign will include a gloss black contemporary façade, illuminated signage and clean architectural lines outside, with crimson velvet, black vinyl flooring and black marine carpet inside.
Wynnum Fringe will continue after the Spiegeltent’s departure. The festival has been part of Brisbane’s bayside cultural calendar for seven years, and planning is underway for its 2027 format as Tom Oliver Productions works on a sustainable model for future arts and cultural events in Wynnum.
The Spiegeltent will also become the new home of Queensland Fringe, with Tom Oliver Productions and Brisbane Powerhouse co-curating productions in the space year-round.
