Explore Wynnum, Manly & Lota

Harbour, foreshore, mangroves, parks and history: an introduction to the Wynnum, Manly and Lota area on Moreton Bay.

Wynnum, Manly and Lota sit side by side on the western shore of Moreton Bay, around 15 to 20 kilometres east of the Brisbane CBD. It is a part of Brisbane shaped by the water: a busy boat harbour, a long foreshore of parks and paths, and mangrove boardwalks a few steps from the street.

On the water

The foreshore runs from Wynnum through Manly to Lota, linking picnic spots, playgrounds, the Wynnum Wading Pool and Manly Boat Harbour, home to sailing clubs and hundreds of boats. Weekend markets fill Little Bayside Park, and the cafés and shops of Manly Harbour Village are a short walk from the marina.

Parks and nature

The district has more than 60 parks, from playgrounds and ovals to quiet bayside lookouts. Boardwalks wind through the mangroves at Wynnum North and Lota, and the foreshore paths suit an early walk or an easy ride.

History

The bayside’s story begins long before European settlement, with the Quandamooka people of Moreton Bay, and runs through settlement and the growth of the seaside suburbs to the district of today. Nearby Fort Lytton, at the mouth of the Brisbane River, guarded the river approach to the city from the 1880s until the Second World War.

Community and what’s on

Clubs, groups and volunteers keep the area busy, from sailing and cricket to theatre and photography. See what’s happening this week, and find the local groups and businesses that make the bayside what it is.

Getting here

Wynnum North, Wynnum, Wynnum Central, Manly and Lota stations are all on the Cleveland train line, and the bayside is around half an hour’s drive from the city, traffic permitting.
